Prague’s Popularity as a Meeting Destination Proven!

Cracking the top ten for the first year, Prague shot up three places in the International Congress and Convention Association’s annual rankings. Prague is the eighth most popular place in the world to hold an international association meeting.

The ICCA looks at the number of international association meetings with more than 50 participants a particular city hosted over the last year. Prague held 151 meetings compared to first place holder Barcelona’s 195.

The City of Spires joins a premier list that includes (in order from first to tenth): Barcelona, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, London, Singapore, Madrid, Prague, Lisbon, and Seoul.

In a separate ranking, Kongres, a magazine covering the Central and Southeastern European meetings industry, Prague came in seventh. The magazine evaluates European meeting destinations using a range of factors including their meeting infrastructure and marketing activities. Among XL meeting destinations (those capable of holding 2000 or more delegates) Prague came in seventh, while the city came first in the magazine’s New Europe category.

According to the Czech Statistical Office, in 2017, 4,127 conferences were held in Prague. Nearly 50% of those were international meetings with visitors from abroad coming most frequently from the US, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, and France. May is also the most popular month for conferences, so if you are thinking of coming in spring, April or June may be a better bet!
